Detailed itinerary

Day 1 – Arrival and transfer to San Salvador
Upon arrival at Oscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport, you’ll be warmly welcomed and transferred to San Salvador, a vibrant capital nestled between volcanoes and valleys. Depending on your arrival time, stroll through the lively streets or enjoy a first taste of the local cuisine.

Day 2 – San Salvador and Suchitoto
Start the day exploring San Salvador: wander the central square, admire the Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Palace—iconic symbols of the country’s turbulent history.
Then continue to La Palma, a charming town in the northern mountains known for its colorful handicrafts inspired by the world of Fernando Llort, an emblematic Salvadoran artist.
End the day in Suchitoto, the colonial pearl of El Salvador, where cobbled streets, a whitewashed church, and indigo workshops tell the story of a rich and vibrant past. Overnight in Suchitoto.

Day 3 – Joya de Cerén and San Andrés
Head to the Zapotitán Valley, with a first stop at the Cihuatán rum distillery. Discover the secrets behind this iconic Salvadoran rum.
Continue with a visit to Joya de Cerén, a Maya village frozen in time after a volcanic eruption in 600 AD—now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Finally, explore the San Andrés site, a former ceremonial and administrative center. Overnight in Santa Ana.

Day 4 – Santa Ana and Cerro Verde
After a Salvadoran coffee, admire the stunning neo-Gothic cathedral of Santa Ana.
Then head to Cerro Verde National Park: walk through primary forests and take in panoramic views of Izalco and Ilamatepec volcanoes. Overnight in Santa Ana.

Day 5 – Tazumal and Ataco
Discover pre-Columbian history with a visit to Tazumal and its towering pyramid.
In the afternoon, head to Ataco, a colorful hilltop town known for its murals, cobbled streets, art galleries, and bohemian charm. Overnight in Ataco.

Day 6 – Pupusa workshop and Salvadoran coffee
Experience El Salvador’s culinary culture during a hands-on pupusa workshop.
Then visit a local coffee plantation to learn about the production process and enjoy a mountain-side tasting. Overnight in Ataco.

Travel along the legendary Ruta de las Flores: Juayúa with its Black Christ church, and Nahuizalco with its traditional woodcrafts.
By late afternoon, descend to the Pacific Coast via Surf City. Overnight in Surf City.

Day 8 – Transfer to the airport
Enjoy your final moments in El Salvador before your transfer to the international airport.
